Lawrence County court records, Pennsylvania, are available through several channels. LawrencePACourt.us allows you to search for public information about court cases in the county. Additionally, records can be found through the official Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania portal, directly at the court offices in the Lawrence County Government Center, and through public terminals installed in the courthouse.

Lawrence Court System & Jurisdictions

Lawrence County is the 53rd judicial district of the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania. There are two main levels of judicial authority here.

Court of Common Pleas — a court of general jurisdiction that hears both jury and non-jury cases. It covers:

  • Serious criminal cases (felonies) and major misdemeanors
  • Civil lawsuits without monetary limits
  • Family cases — custody, divorce, alimony (through the Family Court / Domestic Relations division)
  • Real estate and probate cases, handled by the Register of Wills
  • Appeals from Magisterial District Courts

Magisterial District Courts — the first level of judicial authority in Pennsylvania. These courts handle minor criminal cases, traffic violations, small civil claims, and conduct preliminary hearings in criminal cases. This is where most speeding fines and minor neighbor disputes are addressed.

Criminal records at the Court of Common Pleas level are maintained by the Clerk of Courts office, while civil documents are handled by the Prothonotary.

Lawrence Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

Current court session announcements are published on the main page of Lawrence County. For example, notices about the cancellation of Motions Court or schedule changes are posted there.

  1. Open the UJS Case Search portal.

How to Get a Copy of a Lawrence Court Document

The type of document determines which office to contact. Civil cases of the Court of Common Pleas are handled by the Prothonotary, criminal cases by the Clerk of Courts. Probate cases and wills are stored by the Register of Wills.

Certified copies have an official seal and signature of an authorized person; they are accepted by other courts and government agencies. Non-certified copies are cheaper and suitable for review.

Ways to obtain:

  • In person — visit the appropriate office in the Lawrence County Government Center.
  • By mail — send a written request specifying the case number, party names, and type of copy (certified or not). Include payment by check or money order.
  • Online — basic case information (docket entries, dates, status) can be viewed for free on the UJS portal. Full document copies usually need to be ordered from the office.
